Sony‘s Playstation Vita is ready for a price cut in 2013, that’s according to Sony’s UK boss Fergal Gara.
Fergal had confirmed during the Eurogamer Expo that the price reduction is coming in 2013, an exact date of precisely when however is “under discussion”.
Gara told Eurogamer: ”We always aim to establish price cuts. So the question is not so much if, but when. We won’t have an across the board pricedown this Christmas. But what you will see us doing is work very hard with our retail partners to add value to the product to make it more compelling.
The PS Vita‘s initial sales weren’t nearly as high as that of Nintendo‘s 3DS. Launch sales for the Vita rounded in at about 321,000 units, then only managing around 72,000 more units in the following full week, that being 137,500 less than the 3DS managed in its first full week after launch.
From a personal level, I shall be waiting for this price drop quite eagerly but not without a few hopes and prayers. One thing that detracted me from the Vita at launch was the contrast of the fairly hefty launch price alongside a launch line-up that seemed decent, but was not a system seller for me personally, especially at the price they asked for. The lack of Vita games particularly in very recent months has hindered my prayers for some solid games to be released by the time of the price-cut, games such as Gravity Rush seem to show how much potential the system truly has, with specs that could incredibly compete with it’s big brother the Playstation 3. Here is hoping to a solid year for the Vita in 2013.
